Arizona's Snowy New Year
The Snowy Forecast
The forecast said it would snow on New Year's Day but I didn't know I'd be waking up to this wonderous sight. This is a rare occurance in Tucson, Arizona. Being originally from New York City snow is an everyday thing during the wintertime but since I've resided in Tucson almost 10 years now I did not realize how much I missed the sight of frosty white snow.
Not As Cold As I'd Imagined
When I pushed the blinds back this morning I gasped. The desert landscape looked beautiful covered with this winter white flurry. I quickly grabbed my robe, threw on my duck boot, that I obviously only get to wear during these rare occassions, grabbed my camera and slowly tip toed out the door. Wanted to enjoy the peaceful moment before th snow melted and the kids woke up. Suprisingly, it wasn't as cold as i'd imagined.
It Will Not Last Long
The snow is already melting by the time I go outside. I know it won't last. I don't think I have ever handled my camera and switched lenses so fast in my life. The kids woke up to the sound of me opening and closing the door. They threw their boots on as quickly as I did mine and started making snowballs. They did not dare throw them at each other. They wanted to see how big they can make one snowball. Their goal was to grab only snow and not our desert sand.
Good Bye Snow
As quickly as it came is as quickly as it went. It flurried a little more into the morning but none of it stuck like it had when I awoke. Our Arizona desert do get cold enough for for the snow to show itself during the winter time. I hope you have all covered your desert plants so they survive the short freeze.
